A practical certification path

Smoke School in the St. Louis Area

St. Louis area facilities can certify at our spring and fall public schools or bring Opaque to their own site. Here is how each option works.

Private schools in St. Louis

For plants, utilities and contractors in the St. Louis area, a private school at your site is usually the most efficient option. We travel with the smoke generator and run the lecture and field test where your observers work.

Missouri and local rules

St. Louis area facilities work with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Air Pollution Control Program, and some with local programs in the City of St. Louis or St. Louis County. Your permit names the method and opacity limits that apply.

Coordinate with nearby facilities

If you only have a few observers, we can look at combining a school with other facilities nearby, or point you to the next public class in the region.

VR between field schools

Eligible observers can recertify with Opaque VR using a supported headset, so a due date does not have to wait for the next St. Louis school.

Public Smoke Schools Near St. Louis

Each spring and fall, Opaque runs a public smoke school in Maryland Heights, in St. Louis County, followed the same week by schools in Festus and Ste. Genevieve. The lecture is completed online before the field day. Check the schedule for current dates.
