A practical certification path

Smoke School in the Kansas City Area

Kansas City is home base for Opaque. Here is how public and private smoke schools work for facilities in the metro, on both sides of the state line.

Local to Kansas City

Our smoke generator trailers and instructors are based in the metro, so a Kansas City school needs little travel planning. We can set up at your plant, yard or a nearby site on either the Missouri or the Kansas side.

Missouri and Kansas rules

Facilities on the Missouri side work with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Air Pollution Control Program, and some with local Kansas City programs. Kansas facilities work with the KDHE Bureau of Air. Your permit names the method and opacity limits that apply.

Private onsite schools

For a team of observers, a private school at your facility saves travel and lets you schedule around shifts. Tell us how many observers you have and your preferred dates, and we will propose a plan.

VR between field schools

If a recertification is due before the next local class, eligible observers can recertify with Opaque VR using a supported headset. We can help you decide which format fits each observer.

Public Smoke Schools in Kansas City

Opaque holds public smoke schools at Santa Fe Park in Independence each spring and fall, usually over two or three days, and adds other Kansas City dates when there is demand. The lecture is completed online before the field day. Check the schedule for current dates.
